Volunteer Spotlight - Isaiah
August 4th, 2025  |  by

Isaiah shares about his love for volunteering and what he has learned over this summer of service!

Serve Louisville is dedicated to providing local service opportunities in the greater Louisville area that benefits fellow ministries while providing fellowship and discipleship to volunteers. As the home base for CrossRoads Missions, Louisville has provided us with a thriving network of Christ-followers that are excited to collaborate in order to expand the impact on our city.

Volunteers come from different churches, skill-sets, and age groups. While many of our volunteers during the week are retired individuals, this summer we have been able to work with Isaiah: a student excited to spend his summer serving!

“I’ve known about CrossRoads for a while through church,” explained Isaiah. “This summer my parents and I had the idea for me to work with Serve Louisville as a summer volunteer job. I didn’t have many construction skills when I started. Ryan, one of the project managers, has been great at teaching me as we work. And the other volunteers have been very patient as I learn through my mistakes.”

“Working with Isaiah has been wonderful,” praised Ryan Thomasson. “He’s grown a liking for a lot of the work we do and has been able to learn a lot. The other volunteers enjoy him being around, and Isaiah really enjoys when we can work with a good group of volunteers.”

“I’ve gotten to learn a lot of cool stuff,” added Isaiah. Throughout the summer Isaiah has served on several projects, learning skills such as demo, flooring, painting, caulking, and so much more. “It’s great to learn these skills that I will need when I’m older, and getting to learn about life from the other volunteers.”

Skills are not the only takeaway for Isaiah. “It is special to know that the work we are doing is helping the work of God. While at the BLOC Ministries project, the leaders came over to eat breakfast with us and share their plans for the women’s center. Their whole mission was very inspiring to me, and I’m so grateful to be able to help them get closer to that goal.”

Isaiah highly recommends volunteering with Serve Louisville, and shared his main takeaways from a summer of service: “Through this work you will learn more about God, help a community, and be part of something bigger than yourself.”
