Made to Serve
June 8th, 2022  |  by

Made to Serve is a radio show hosted by CrossRoads Missions interviewing ministry workers and volunteers about the impact of service on their own lives.

There is a new way you can connect with and learn with CrossRoads Missions on a regular basis – by listening to the radio! Our Executive Director Rob Minton and our Director of Advancement Rich Shanks have started hosting a weekly radio show titled Made to Serve. Broadcasting to Louisville on PURE Radio 92.3 on Saturday and Sunday at 11am eastern, the show can also be found on SoundCloud, including previous episodes!

“The purpose of the show is to inspire listeners to get involved and to connect them with opportunities to use their God given talents and passions to do what we believe God has created each of us to do, which is to serve others!” Rich explains while announcing CrossRoads’ involvement with the radio show. “Our hope in doing the show is that we can raise awareness of the many volunteer opportunities available through CrossRoads Missions, our fields, and our ministry partners. Our plan is to share inspiring stories of those whose lives have been changed both by serving and by having been served.”

Made to Serve episode 2 interviewing Andy Cole of Help Build Hope

The title Made to Serve came from the belief that we were all made to serve one another, that we were created with a need to serve as part of a larger community. While explaining how he came to serve with CrossRoads, Rich shared how this concept is true in his own life: “The thing that struck me about CrossRoads Missions is that so many people’s lives were being changed in so many ways, and that is something that I wanted to be a part of.” We serve not only because it is a good thing to do, but because it affects us in a positive way. Rob continues the discussion by explaining how volunteers feel after serving, “People come back and say ‘I feel like I’ve gotten more out of this than I gave,’ and they are exactly right. Because they are doing what they are made to do – they are made to serve. They are worshiping, they are fellowshipping, and doing what they are made to do.”

Every week Rob and Rich will have a conversation with volunteers and ministry leaders about their experiences serving, and about opportunities to serve in the Louisville area. But the show is not just for Louisville residents, these stories will inspire you to find service opportunities in your hometown. Rob delves further into the importance of serving in the first episode, “Service is such an amazing way to deepen relationships with people, have great fellowship, and in that process do something that will have a lasting significance.” No matter where you are, these stories of serving can inspire and move you.

Made to Serve episode 3 interviewing Keri Owens and Angie Roberts of Lifeline Louisville

The show focuses on the volunteers and ministry leaders to show the mutual impact service has on everyone involved. “We think of service and of those being served and how their lives are changed, but the reality is that those doing the service also have their lives changed,” says Rich about the impact on volunteers. The stories shared on the show will go beyond the immediate impact of a day of service, it will show the lasting impact of being part of the story yourself. “Once you have served with someone, and served someone, your two stories are intertwined forever,” explains Rob. Sharing some of those stories on this show will hopefully illustrate to our listeners how important being part of the story can be.

If you are in the Louisville area you can tune in to the next episode of Made to Serve on Saturday or Sunday at 11am eastern on PURE Radio 92.3FM. Or listen to all previous episodes on SoundCloud, and subscribe to get updates on new episodes every week!
