God has been showing up in some amazing ways this year. In our last article about Revive Hope, we put out the call for staff, interns, and funding to continue showing the love of Jesus in Appalachia. Since that article the Church has shown up in some incredible ways, and God has provided more than we could have imagined.

We are incredibly excited to introduce TWO new full-time staff members who will be living missionally in Maytown! Jaron started a few months ago, jumping right into flood recovery and using that to develop relationships in the community. Neveah is starting off with the busy summer season and couldn’t be more excited! Their enthusiasm is best expressed in their own words:

Jaron Pike, Connections Coordinator
Jaron has had a long history with CrossRoads, participating in mission trips with his family and college Campus House. But it wasn’t until a recent conference (ICYC, Indiana Christian Youth Convention) that he met CJ and the seeds for full-time missions were planted. “We had an awesome conversation about the Church, and Appalachia, and people, and the culture. It resonated with me.”
“I’m excited to work with families and be involved in their lives. To hear their stories, share my story, and build connections.” Jaron has already had the opportunity to trade stories as he helped clean up after the flooding earlier this year. While the start of his role looked a lot different than planned, he has used it as a ministry opportunity. Meanwhile, building connections with flood relief groups throughout the spring.

Neveah Derringer, Community Care Coordinator
Neveah has been on a couple trips to Appalachia over the years, and has fallen in love with the area and community. But it was a trip this spring that put a call on her heart. God showed up in some amazing ways, as Neveah wasn’t originally supposed to be on the trip! But God often uses unexpected changes to our best benefit.
“I’ve been on mission trips to Appalachia for a couple years now, and it’s clear that God wants me to stay here longer,” shared Neveah. “I’m so excited to be here. I’m excited to invest in the next generation and see where God is taking me. I’m ready to dive deep and finish the work that was started before me.”

Jumping into Community
Jaron, Neveah, and the summer interns jumped right into community outreach for the start of their summer season. Immediately after arriving in the field they prepared to host a Maytown reunion. Past students of the school that is now our home base gathered in the lunch room to share stories, show off quilts, eat good food, and reunite with old friends.
The Appalachia team shared on facebook: “This weekend we had the privilege to work along side and host many Maytown Alumni for a Homecoming and reunion event. It was so fun to spend the weekend listening to stories of mischief and learn more about the sweet town and school that is now the Maytown Center. So thankful for this opportunity!”
