Last week, a dedicated team from Southeast Christian Church embarked on a vital relief mission to East Tennessee in response to the devastating flooding caused by Hurricane Helene. Spearheaded by Rob Minton, Founder & Executive Director of CrossRoads Missions, this week-long trip brought together nine enthusiastic Southeast members, all committed to making a positive impact in the affected communities.
Established in the early ’90s at Milligan University in Johnson City, TN, CrossRoads Missions has a deep-rooted connection to the area, making it a fitting choice to lead this important effort. The group’s base of operations was the Appalachia Christian Camp in Unicoi, TN, from where they set out each day to provide assistance across several impacted areas, including Greenville, TN and various other small towns in the region.
The team worked tirelessly, engaging in critical tasks such as debris removal, chainsaw operations, and house demolition. Their unwavering commitment to serving others was evident as they provided much-needed help to those whose lives were turned upside down by the natural disaster
Community Needs
As the recovery process unfolds, the communities in East Tennessee face numerous challenges. Immediate needs include basic supplies such as food, water, and hygiene products. Many families are still without essential utilities, and temporary housing solutions are urgently required. Additionally, long-term recovery efforts will need construction materials for rebuilding homes and infrastructure.
Local organizations are working around the clock to assess and meet these needs, but they require additional support to effectively serve those impacted. This is where volunteers and donations can make a significant difference.
Continuing Support and Volunteer Opportunities
Looking ahead, CrossRoads Missions will be organizing similar relief trips throughout November. If you’re interested in joining this meaningful work, please reach out via email at rich@crossroadsmissions.com with your contact information, and we will connect you with the appropriate team.
For those who may not be able to volunteer but still wish to contribute, we encourage donations to support the mission. Funds will cover essential costs like transportation, equipment rental, and project materials. You can make your donation using the following link, East Tennessee Disaster Relief, or by texting crrelief to 50155.
The need in East Tennessee is great, and your support can make a significant difference in the lives of those affected. Together, we can help rebuild communities and restore hope in the wake of disaster. Each contribution, no matter how small, can lead to profound change for those in need.
A Community United
As we reflect on the resilience of the people in East Tennessee, we are reminded that the power of God and community is stronger than any natural disaster. The combined efforts of prayer, volunteers, donors, and local organizations will play a crucial role in helping these communities recover and thrive once again. Please join us in this mission as we help to bring hope and healing to those in need throughout East Tennessee.
I just want to thank Crossroads and the team that came to East Tennessee! I went on two different trips as a teenager to Eastern Kentucky and helped flooded areas. I never thought my own home would face similar devisation. Thank you CrossRoads for being such an amazing organization and giving others the opportunity to show the love of God in trying times.
