Introducing our newest staff member in the Louisville field – Dwight Spurrier!
Background
Dwight has a history of service and a construction background that he is excited to bring to our work in the Louisville area. After serving in the Air Force, he spent time working in various construction and repair work jobs – on a framing crew, real estate, remodeling consultant, and always did remodeling and handyman work on the side.
As a member of Southeast Christian Church, Dwight has served in the usher ministry for 20 years, 17 of those as ministry leader. While serving as an usher, he heard several people talking about CrossRoads and the opportunities to serve, especially around Louisville. It wasn’t until retirement that Dwight started seeking more volunteer opportunities.
“I viewed my handyman work as my ministry,” explained Dwight. “I would help my neighbor take care of her house after her husband passed, and that was my mission field. Then John Boyd started recruiting me. He showed me some of the work CrossRoads is doing around Louisville and introduced me to the staff – it all happened quickly after that.”
CrossRoads Louisville
The staff at CrossRoads Louisville made a great first impression on Dwight. “They are all there because they have a servant’s heart. It is all done to see Christ’s work done, and see it work in the communities. We do work that will strengthen the community and plant a seed in a family that is struggling. Everything grows from that. I love working with good Christian men and women.”
Since starting in May, Dwight has learned about and worked on several ongoing projects around Louisville. One of the first projects he joined brought the ministry full circle for him – repairing a home for a mother with dementia at the request of her daughter. “We worked on the home to make sure it stayed in the family,” continued Dwight. “It was very rewarding to help them and get to know both of them.” This is the type of ministry Dwight has done all his life, and he gets to continue that work with CrossRoads.
Dwight is also working on a building renovation in partnership with Bloc Ministries. CrossRoads is helping renovate an unused building in the West End that Bloc will use as a community center for the many services and programs they provide. “While working on rehabbing the building, I was able to meet the neighbors and hear how thankful they are for us being there. It is a blessing to work in an area that needs it,” praised Dwight.

Ongoing ministry
We are excited to serve alongside Dwight and all our Louisville staff as these projects progress! Will you join us in serving the Louisville area? Dwight wants to serve with you: “We need help of all kinds, skilled, unskilled. If you have a servant’s heart and are looking for a place to serve, this is a good place to start. If you want to feel the spirit of the Lord at work and be surrounded by uplifting people CrossRoads is the place.”
“Step out of the boat and have faith in your servant’s heart. Sometimes I think the areas we work in can make people nervous, but it takes courage and faith. If you are looking to serve, it is something the Lord has planted inside you. Step out of the boat one time and you will be blessed over and over. You will get support from the people around you, it is one mission by everyone together to do God’s work. Once you are in, you’re in!”
