We are excited to introduce a new member of the Serve Louisville team! Dave Elmore is a Louisville native who has been volunteering with CrossRoads for a few years. Whenever his church, Southeast Christian, would host a Help Build Hope event or a weekend volunteer day with Serve Louisville, Dave would be there.
The People
“I got to know a lot of the guys and the different projects they were doing,” explained Dave. “It interested me to work in a non-stress job with good guys to work with.” After retiring from 32 years of working at the Toyota plant in Georgetown, Dave got more involved with Serve Louisville and decided to become a Project Manager
Dave elaborated, “just being retired and sitting at home every day gets monotonous. And that’s the reason I volunteered, to get out once or twice a week, now four or five times a week. Getting to work side by side with people is really entertaining, and getting to hear their stories from totally different backgrounds. You’re going to meet a lot more people than you would going to get a coffee once a week.”
The Work
The camaraderie isn’t the only draw to working with Serve Louisville. The projects and work itself has its own reward. Serve Louisville’s goal is to support other ministries and mission-minded individuals to expand their services through construction and renovations. Over the past few years Serve Louisville has served missional living families, low-income housing ministries, disability services, refugee outreaches, and much more.
Dave is joining at the beginning of our biggest project yet. Operation Care in Shelbyville, KY has acquired a building that will expand their ministry significantly, after it is renovated! Our Serve Louisville team is working alongside this ministry to not only resote this historic building, but also create a welcoming home for women and children in need.

“We are just getting into it now,” shared Dave. “Its really neat to go from what the building looks like now to what its going to be in the future. I have been down to their thrift store and talked to some of the ladies there, and they are really excited about what is happening here too.”
The Future
Working alongside ministries like this with a group of like-minded volunteers is what Dave, and all our Serve Louisville team, loves about working with CrossRoads Missions. “Everybody is on the same mission. I’ve yet to meet anyone who doesn’t enjoy what they are doing and looking forward to coming out once or twice a week and doing these kind of projects. You don’t get bad attitudes, everyone is excited to work and do some good.”
